Our non-surgical procedures include outpatient laser or injection appointments designed to improve your retina and assist with glaucoma complications.
Also known as YAG PI, it is an outpatient laser procedure for patients diagnosed with narrow angles. It is performed to prevent the blockage of fluid outflow from inside the eye, thus reducing the risk of developing angle closure glaucoma.
The angle is located inside of the eye, in front of the iris that serves to drain fluid from within the eye to maintain proper eye pressure. In a normal eye, the angle typically measures 40˚. In a narrow angled eye, this angle measures less than 20˚ and is at risk of being blocked off by the iris, preventing the fluid in the eye from escaping. Obstruction of the angle causes pressure to build up resulting in damage to the optic nerve and irreversible vision loss.
Laser Iridotomy is an outpatient laser that can be used to prevent the blockage from occurring, thus reducing your risk of developing angle closure glaucoma. Several applications of laser energy are delivered through a contact lens on your eye to create a small opening in the iris to prevent the angle from closing. The procedure is generally pain free. Some people may feel a slight pinching sensation with each laser application. The treatment is usually completed after only several minutes.
The vision recovers about half an hour following the procedure. Some patients may experience a headache after the procedure as a result of the eye drops used to prepare the eyes for the laser. This usually lasts for about 1-2 hours. Generally patient can return to normal activities by the end of the day.
We aim to care for our patients compassionately in a technologically cutting edge environment using the latest advances in clinical research.
