FAQ

Your Questions Answered

Will PDT laser improve my vision?

The PDT laser is extremely effective at getting rid of sub-retinal fluid. Visual outcomes are dependant on multiple components within the eye and specifically multiple layers within the retina. Visual improvement is usually experienced in patients that have minimal damage to the deep retinal layer.

How long does it take for the sub-retinal fluid to reabsorb after the PDT laser?

It may take up to 4 to 6 weeks for the laser effect to occur, for this reason a follow up appointment should be arranged 6 weeks post treatment.

What are the precautions after the PDT laser treatment?

Because Visudyne is a photo active drug, direct sun exposure should be avoided in the first 48 hours.

Photodynamic Therapy

Also known as PDT, it is an outpatient laser procedure for patients diagnosed with central serous retinopathy (CSR). This laser requires a dye (Visudyne) injected into the arm over 10 minutes before a cold laser is applied to the retina over a short period of time to seal the leaking vessels in the retina.
