Dr. Chiu received her medical degree with honours at the University of Toronto. She subsequently completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Chiu practices comprehensive ophthalmology and is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. She is currently an attending ophthalmologist at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Chiu was the recipient of the highest honour for graduating residents, receiving the Duncan Jamieson Memorial Prize and the Woywitka Cup for being the top resident at the University of Toronto for over five years. Other residency awards recognizing her clinical excellence include the St. Michael’s Michael Shea Award for Best Senior Resident and the Hospital for Sick Children’s Wing Chan Award for Best Junior Resident. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chiu is dedicated to developing her research expertise. She is a first-place grant recipient of the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology Research Competition for a multidisciplinary prospective research trial, as well as a recipient of the Alumni Best Resident Research Day Award.  She has also been recognized for her research achievements at the national and international level, having been a recipient of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society Excellence in Research Award (2nd place) and a recipient of the Best Poster Award at the World Ophthalmological Congress.
