Dr. Harrish Nithianandan is a double board-certified eye physician and surgeon, and sub-specialist in medical diseases of the retina. His clinical expertise includes extensive experience with intraocular procedures, complex and refractive cataract surgeries, and laser procedures. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a staff ophthalmologist at William Osler Health System.
Dr. Nithianandan completed his Ophthalmology Residency at McGill University where he served as chief resident and was awarded the leadership and highest academic standing awards. Following his residency, he completed a sub-specialty fellowship in Medical Retina at the prestigious Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, United States. This intensive fellowship is regarded as one of the best in North America where Dr. Nithianandan managed high volumes of complex retinal conditions with renowned experts in the field. He also served as a co-investigator on numerous clinical trials involving novel therapeutics for a variety of diseases.
Dr. Nithianandan has published extensively in the medical literature and has presented at numerous national and international scientific conferences. He was awarded the Sean Murphy Prize for Research Excellence, Best of Session Award at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Eye Foundation of Canada Scholarship and the Rons Jans Clinical Cornea Research Award from the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. Dr. Nithianandan published one of the largest pivotal studies of patients undergoing refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery (ReLACS), which helped elucidate the role of laser-assisted surgery in various scenarios.
Dr. Nithianandan strives to utilize his specialized expertise to deliver thorough and patient-centred care to optimize outcomes and patient satisfaction. He is proficient in English, French and Tamil and is eager to serve the diverse communities of the Greater Toronto Area.
